The Story

Adelaide Street entrance from a pedestrian perspective. Opened up at ground level. Paul Williams enters through here. 
Retail pods. Paul walks by these on his way to the restaurant.
Central service and circulation core. Paul looks up at the sky and observes the two towers separated by the core and thinks to him self "I'm glad they didn't just fill the entire site with building and left voids for light to penetrate to the ground level".

Week 11 Retail Pod Inspiration


These images capture the essence of what the retail pods will be like. Users will engage with them to experience products as opposed to purchasing. Retailers would set up installations such as these in the designated spaces of the project. Set in the historical building component. Spaces within Spaces.
Inflatable, translucent, temporary movable.

Aim to get people in to experience touch and play with products so they can purchase later on-line  Removes storage space and transportation.

Week 10 Architecture Fiction Events

Event 1 - Peter Daniels  - starts his day in his residential apartment. Capture the typical res apartment characteristics.
Event 2 - Peter Daniels  - Is at work in the agriculture farm. Pick up the spatial qualities and architecture used also the program.
Event 3 - Peter Daniels  - Takes produce to the community pods to connect and share produce with internal community.

Event 4 - Peter Daniels  - Meets Paul Williams and he goes on to describe what he's been up to within the complex.

Event 5 - Paul Williams - Arrives on foot to the Entrance at Adelaide street.

So this considers the internal community interaction space, located near core of building. Its a place for migrated people and other internal residents a place to share, connect, collaborate and conduct passive surveillance.
Agricultural tower. Top diagram explores the considerations made for access natural light into growing plots and the resultant facade system.  The bottom section looks at the spatial volume and how the facade is to operate.
Residential apartments.  Considerations of thermal comfort, structural modulation. Aimed at providing shelter in the CBD they are to be small. For migrated, relocated population.  Rear circulation path connects to core and community pods.

Week 9 - Tower Planning

Revised typical tower floor plan.  New core arrangement, , divides programs up so circulation doesn't overlap and privacy maintained.  Linear residential apartments to maintain existing structural grid, optimise orientation benefits and allow for efficient cross flow  ventilation in sub-tropical climate. The community space is envisaged will help connect internal community members it also acts as a place residents can access produce from agriculture  Agriculture divided into plant and equipment space and growing decks. Facades to consider water capturing and light penetration capabilities.


Apartments have three different types to accommodate for users needs.  Future context has inspired the small size and minimal basics of shelter to accommodate the forced migration of population.

Circulation Core at Ground Level drawn as section through retail building with elevation of circ core. I overlaid the stair well to give a sense of the spatial qualities within.  Entry points for Residence and Retail. Looks at materials , spatial qualities.

Week 9 - Circulation

Original Circulation option. Tutor advised me that this would result in programs overlapping, raises issues  privacy, security and also issues with traffic loading. 


Circulation Core Example 2.  Note this is not desirable as the only set of stairs is located within the residential and agriculture tower, so external community users would have to enter this space to access. Raises issues of privacy and security.

Circulation Core Example 3. Now all three programs have  specific circulation  space. Critical to separate the  Commercial operation from the towers circulation.

Adelaide Street Entrance. Ground level has been opened up to allow for thoroughfare. Pedestrians can visually and physically connect with retail operations.


Section shows the intimate retail experience pods they site within the spatial volume.  

The pods contain human activity, almost like the pea and the pod.  This can also transfer at a lager scale in that the pods sit in the building. Different scales.  Pods designed for human pedestrian scale.

Perspective capturing usage. How users move through the space. Transforming  existing closed off retail operations. Shows the central pedestrian thoroughfare that connects to the core and then Burnett Lane.
